It’s hard imagining life in today’s world without a credit card. The funny thing is how you lose some of the services you took for granted when you destroy your American Express card like I did. I found I couldn’t join my local gym, order clothes over the internet or even reserve a plane ticket to New York, online, the basic stuff of life. It seemed like only a few years ago that cash was the preferred way to get stuff, but those days are long gone now.
We never stop to ask ourselves when using our American Express credit card globally whether or not we need or can afford what we are buying it has become so commonplace. However, there is a price to pay when you use your American Express credit card and the buy now, pay tomorrow attitude. The amount of money owed on credit cards is growing everywhere. One of the largest problems facing America today is that of credit card debt.
This is the primary reason I decided to cancel my American Express credit card recently. There was nothing to stop me because I wasn’t actually taking money from my pocket. Before too long as the spending started to spiral out of control I had to admit that I had been charging everything to my card irrespective of what it was. I was dealing with a debt that I could not possibly pay, and I was in a state of panic.

Now, however, the debt is paid off and the American Express credit card has gone. Most of you reading this will probably think it’s not the fault of the credit card but you need to understand something fundamental about human psychology.
I was more conscious of the cost of things when I paid for goods in cash. Like I said before you are not as conscious of the cost when you use your credit card. I would spend money on everything, almost like a person possessed but before long, there wasn’t anything left. So now there is no American Express credit card problem for me to worry about.
